Gaelic Dragons take home medals from Asia’s first Pool Dragon Battle
Congrats to our paddlers who participated in Asia’s first ever Pool Dragon Battle at the Orchid Country club this Saturday.
The unique event was organized by local dragon boat event company DBI, which introduced a bunch of new technologies, such as online team manager briefings or RFID tags to track the crews.
Protocol for the Battles included team weigh ins (oops, we are THAT heavy?), teams shaking hands before battling and new race commands “Are you ready? Dragon Battle? GO!” Battles were structured as a timed set of 30 seconds in which each team had to move the boat 2m into the opposing half to win. Did this not happen, a second round of 30 seconds was called and if this still didn’t lead to a winner, teams went for a grueling “sudden death” 3rd round to battle until a winner was decided.
The 14 participating Gaelic Dragons were in great form, battling it out hard against other local teams in 3 categories and scoring Silver medals in the Featherweight and IDBC categories while the ladies received Bronze for their efforts!

Fun wasn’t coming short either with Gaelics jumping on bouncy castles, being human hamsters, kayaking, trying out scuba diving and enjoying some dances and acrobatics during the rain break! Gaelic style!
The event finished with a rewards ceremony and a smashing pool party. Those who attended can’t stop talking about it and can’t wait for next year! We are sure that Dragon boating in Singapore has a great new event to add to their race schedules!
