AustCham 10K Challenge This Weekend And Our Gaelic Of The Month

All athletes get tired, and at some point, frustrated. But what makes successful athletes different from the rest? They don’t stop. They don’t stop until the GOOD gets BETTER, and the BETTER becomes BEST. They don’t stop, until they can’t get it wrong anymore.

And do you know one of the characters that makes these GREAT athletes in a team EXCEPTIONAL? They are not just great on their own, but they are great team players too. They believe that individual COMMITMENT to a group effort makes a team work and they share their VISION to the team and work with the TEAM to reach their GOAL. They keep in mind that the team can count on them. They are flexible, do not complain and get stressed out when something new is brought to the table. They consider different points of view and compromise when needed.

We all, can become one.

10k is coming this weekend. It is going to be tough, but we will make it strong. Two things for sure, we will be finishing the course as a team, and we will have awesome supporters cheering for us! Remember, it ain’t over till it’s over. So let’s get to that finish line together! Let’s all find that greatness amongst ourselves!

Yes, you read that right! There is no training this weekend! So take this weekend to recover and regain that strength again to prepare for the coming SRR race training! We still do have a Wednesday morning session, and post can be found on our Facebook group. For those participating on the 10k race, especially those who missed the training last weekend, please attend this session as your last training before the race this coming weekend.

Everyone, please do take note of the following training procedure to be followed when you arrive at the cage:

1. Register for attendance

2. Take a paddle, PFD(life vest), and bum pad.

3. If you don’t have your own water, please take 2-3 bottles of water that the team is providing.

4. Help prepare the boats for training. If you need guidance on where to go or what to do, please ask any of the regular members or your captains.

Note: We are trying to lessen the use of plastic bottles for training, please help us do this by bringing your own water and reusable containers.

This guy has been found again, walking around the nursery area last weekend.

The perpetrator is a Chinese male, around early to mid 20s, has a slim and lanky built.

Please be vigilant and make sure you secure your belongings properly. SDBA had advised that if you see this guy around the area, be careful to approach him as he might be carrying a weapon. Anger is mounting at this guy, but please do not take the law into your own hands.

Maintenance Day Success!

Boats are clean and our cages are tidy now! Thanks to everyone who came down and helped us!

Our boats will be needing some repairs since we have found there were loose screws on seats. Please let us know if you if you find more issues with the boat. As for our cage, please help maintain the cleanliness of our cage. Never leave food at the cage!

10K Race – Supporters Rally and After Party

2pm, 30 September

Kallang Beach

Hey Gaelics! The 10k race is almost here and it is time to begin to rally to create the best suport crew there is!

For those not paddling, join us this Saturday!

The idea is to help the race crew gear up and get the boat onto the water(we are using our own boat) and then we will proceed to different locations, where we can see our boat, and cheer for them. We are looking at 3 main camping spots:

– The Helix Bridge

– The Merlion

– Kallang Beach itself for the finish

We will then join in the festivities on the beach before we board the buses at around 6.30pm to bring us to Circular Road for a collective celebration with all the other teams!

Do RSVP on the Facebook event posted by Cash. See you all there!

David Beattie Memorial Newbie Day

11 November

We are excited to announce that starting this year, we will have the David Beattie Memorial Day!

David M. Beattie is the founding father of the Gaelic Dragons and has been an inspiration to many. We are inviting all the Gaelic Dragons to join us on this day to commemorate what our founding father has built. This will be a day of races and games, with a mix of a reunion for the ‘ol Gaelic members, and a newbie day that will be held at Kallang beach. On the day, there will be special readings to be done and a ceremony.

Apart from this, we would need volunteers to sign up as a sub-committee for this event. The sub-committee will be in-charge of the fun races and games, and assist Mandy Irvine for the Newbie Day. Please fill this Google form out to sign up.

Gaelic of the Month for September

Alison (Ali) Chave

She’s not just managing the Gaelic Dragons finances (Yes, the Captains have made slight changes to the rule, that everyone will be eligible to be our Gaelic of the Month, except for them, and of course, yours truly.) she’s a very energetic paddler. Thanks Ali for always sharing that bright smile and bringing positivity in the boat.
